Motherwell Bridge Scoops Top Health and Safety Awards

Motherwell Bridge Ltd, the Lanarkshire based engineering contractor, has scooped a number of prestigious safety awards.

The company, along with each of its operating subsidiaries – MB Engineering Services, MB Inspection, MB Aerospace, MB Faber, and MB Plastics- has received an International Safety Award from the British Safety Council for 2005.

In addition, MB Engineering Services’ Storage Tanks Division and MB Inspection also received Presidents Awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for their safe working practices across the UK.

Presidents Awards are only granted to companies that have had an excellent safety record over a 10 year period.

Andy Affleck, group health and safety manager of Motherwell Bridge, said: “These awards recognise the importance that the entire workforce places on safe working practices, from the Board downwards, and it was particularly encouraging that they were all achieved following assessment by external examiners.

“Only companies with below average accident rates are eligible for these awards, and we had to demonstrate that not only does Motherwell Bridge have good safety policies and plans in place, but that there is a commitment to health and safety at the highest Board level.”

Mr David Ballard, chief executive of the British Safety Council added: “For nearly 50 years we have led the way in promoting health, safety, and environmental best practice in society.

“Through achieving these International Safety Awards, the Motherwell Bridge group is helping to make our vision of a safe working environment a reality.”
