MCS Golf Team Tee Off at the Texaco – NCH National Charity Golf TournamentJune 2001

This year was Texaco’s 10th Annual National Charity Golf Tournament, in aid of one of the UK’s leading children’s charities NCH. It was held at Littlehampton Golf Club from 4 June to 6 June. Motherwell Control Systems invited 3 of its clients [Mr. Mike Douglas, GATX, Mr. Nigel Passmore, Petroplus, Phil Martin, HOSL] to join our Sales Director Mr. Malcolm Anderson and our Systems Manager Mr. Mark Price to take part in the event, as well as donating prizes for presentations.

NCH’s aim is simple but ambitious – to help the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people to reach their potential. The Charity achieves this by providing a wide and innovative range of services for children and their families and by campaigning for policy change.

NCH helps more than 77,000 people each year in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. All their work happens through partnerships – with thousands of organisations and individuals, including other voluntary agencies, local authorities, churches, businesses, individual supporters, volunteers and of course, staff and users.

To date the Texaco Golf Tournament has raised over £81,000 for NCH, and this year hoped to reach £100,000. The current running total declared for this years Tournament is an incredible £9,717. In a highly commendable act of generosity Mr. David Codd, Managing Director, Texaco Limited in recognition of 10 years fund raising, pledged to donate the remainder of the set target, approximately £9,100. Due to NCH’s unique funding arrangements the £100,000 will actually be providing £500,000 worth of services.

As well as supporting an extremely worthwhile cause, the event is very much enjoyed by its participants. The Vopak Team won the Tournament achieving 52 points (back 9 of 27 points). John Powell Electrical Limited came a close second with 52 points (back 9 of 25 points), and in third place were ET Fox with 51 points. However the Motherwell Control Systems Team did score a very respectable 47 points.

It has been a great pleasure for MCS to support Texaco in such a worthwhile and consequential event for the past 10 years.

Malcolm Anderson comments: "The weather was glorious this year as opposed to past years, and the lack of wind helped to produce good golf and high scores."
